Treepot Media is a production company based in Ottawa, Canada, focused on producing and collaborating on feature films, documentaries, short films, music, event and promotional videos. Founded by award-winning filmmaker Jith Paul in 2010 the company has enjoyed critical and audience success through Treepot.tv, a collaborative indie music channel (nominee, Canada’s Best Music Website,CBCRadio 3 Spotlight contest, 2011,) the Treepot Film Festival at theatres and outdoor venues in Ottawa and as a founding partner of IndieKoala, an artist-run on-demand service for indie films.

Our recent short film Algebra was an award winner at the Digi60 Filmmaker’s Festival and went on to screen at festivals in Toronto, Scotland, Italy, India and Cannes. A few other collaborations Polar Bear Love, Moments and Perfect have all been finalists in CBC’s Short Film Face-off. Several other short films and collaborations have received recognition and awards at festivals around the world.

Documentary story-telling is something we are passionate about. Partners for Peace, a feature-length documentary collaboration between Treepot Media, Kublacom Pictures and the Nobel Women’s Initiative follows a delegation of American and Canadian women on a journey to Israel and Palestine. It was the opening film at the 2013 One World Film Festival. North Boys, a documentary collaboration with filmmakers Lucy van Oldenbarneveld and Laura Cabott about two men who survived the residential school system won of the Founder’s award at the Yorkton Film Festival in 2012. This is My Witness, a collaboration with Kublacom Pictures about the first citizen’s Tribunal on crimes against women in Burma premiered at the Paley Centre in New York, won an Award of Merit at the La Jolla, California based Best Shorts competition in 2011.

Five short films about people and their connection to Ottawa’s neighbourhoods, commissioned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and produced by Treepot Media made its broadcast premiere as CBC Ottawa Presents: Neighbourhood Stories in July 2011.

Treepot Media is a key collaborator of Ottawa Canadian Film Festival, a cultural, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to recognize, promote and celebrate the art of cinema by showcasing independent Ottawa, Canadian and international films and filmmakers. This work is a continuation of the work we started with the Treepot Film Festival screenings of curated films at movie theatres, auditoriums and parks.

Our latest projects include Drum with Us, an advocacy video for ACTRA National’s Diversity Committee and the short films Jasmin et Macarons, a conversation between a woman and her two friends over afternoon tea and Before Me, a film that explores social intolerance and its impact on children.

Founder, Treepot Media

Jith Paul, the founder of Treepot Media, is a filmmaker based in Ottawa, Canada, a producer, director, cinematographer and editor of several award-winning short films, documentaries and music videos. His directorial debut, Algebra, a short film about a painter grappling with the loss of his eyesight, screened at festivals throughout Asia, North America and Europe including the Festival international Entr’2 marches in Cannes, France in 2015. His film "A Clean Slate", about a once promising pop singer, who struggles to overcome her debilitating stage fright, was awarded Best International Short Film at the Valle d'Itria Film Festival in Italy, where it premiered.

We have been fortunate to have our productions and collaborations selected for inclusion in event and festival screenings around the world. We have won a few awards along the way as well. Treepot.tv

Treepot.tv was a collaborative sandbox where independent musicians and photo/video/media types found opportunities to collaborate, network, learn and grow. The group that gathered informally at the Indie Attic in the market and at various other venues around the city and filmed indie bands. The collaborations extended to filmmakers experimenting with the format in Toronto as well. We ended up creating 37 episodes streamed online and on iTunes between 2009 and 2013.

Treepot Film Festival

The Treepot Film Festival was a series of 10 screenings of Ottawa-based and Canadian independent short films, documentaries, music videos and feature films curated by Jith Paul.

Over 150 films were featured at these screenings which took place between 2011 and 2014 at independent cinemas and parks in the Ottawa area.

Treepot Cliffhanger

The Treepot Cliffhanger was a collaborative feature film project produced by Treepot Media where five filmmakers, chosen by a jury, took turns making chapters of a story over the course of one year. The twist was that each chapter followed from the ending or cliffhanger of the previous chapter like a cinematic chain letter. The filmmakers were Chris Chitaroni, Kristian Lariviere, Keith Wiggins, Lucia Fiore and Derek Price.

Treepot DCP Guide

The Treepot DCP Guide was created to assist filmmakers who needed to create simple Digital Cinema Packages to submit their films to festivals. Written by Jith Paul in 2012, the guide focused primarily on open source tools and plug-ins for Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe has since added a lincensed version of the Wraptor plug-in to Premiere Pro but we have continued to receive requests for the guide so here is an archived version of the guide from our older website for reference.
